2 Purpose

This SOP tells you how to hand the vehicle back at the end of your shift – clean, reported, and secure.

3 Applies To

All drivers on TBS services – TBS employees and contracted drivers alike (not the drivers of self-managed operators, who follow their own procedures) – at the end of every shift, and at vehicle changeovers during a shift. Any vehicle allocated to you by TBS Operations is a TBS vehicle – every procedure here applies.

4 Step-by-Step Procedure

This is a checklist procedure. Do the steps in this order at the end of every shift.

Phase 1 – Refuel, Park and Secure the Basics
  • 1
Driver Refuel on the way in – every time you return, whatever the kilometres. AdBlue below half? Top it up.
  • 2
Driver Park in the designated area only. Never block exits, fire equipment or other vehicles. Park brake on, engine off.
  • 3
Driver Hi-vis on for the walk-around in the yard.
Phase 2 – Walk the Bus
  • 4
Driver Empty vehicle check: seats, floors, seat pockets, luggage racks – passengers, belongings, damage. Found something? Follow SOP-10 · Lost Property
  • 5
Driver Cabin clean: remove all rubbish and personal items; sweep the floor and empty the bins; wipe the wheel, controls and dashboard; seat clean; pedals and footwell free of debris; no loose items.
  • 6
Driver Passenger area: rubbish off seats and floors; floors free of trip hazards; windows clear.
  • 7
Driver Entry steps and touch points: steps free of mud and spills; rails and handles wiped if soiled.
  • 8
Driver Safety equipment check: extinguisher present; first aid kit present and sealed; emergency exits unobstructed.
Spills and contamination
Clean up a spill if you can do so safely. If you can’t, tell Operations now and report it in Mitti as a Hazard Report before your shift ends. Fuel or oil on the ground: tell Operations at once – never leave it for the next driver.
Phase 3 – Report
  • 9
Driver Any defect, fault or new damage from your shift: report it in Mitti as a Defect today. Operations and the Workshop are notified automatically. You will get a Mitti notification when your report is being handled, and again when it is fixed.
Never hide damage
An unreported fault is tomorrow’s breakdown – or worse. Reporting honestly is never punished; hiding damage is a disciplinary matter.
  • 10
Supervisor The Workshop is notified automatically and triages the defect. Safety-related defect: withdraw the vehicle before the next allocation.
Phase 4 – Sign Off
  • 11
Driver Close up the vehicle – all doors and compartments shut, not locked. (Away from the depot the bus is locked and the keys go with you – SOP-08.) No smoking material anywhere on board – ever.
  • 12
Driver Leave the keys in the ignition for the next driver. No ignition? Leave the keys in an obvious spot in the cab where the next driver will find them. The Quick Reference Handbook (the card ring) stays in the bus.
  • 13
Driver Switch off the main isolator – the last thing you do before leaving the bus.
  • 14
Driver Sign off with Operations and hand in your job sheet. Your shift record closes the loop your sign-on opened (SOP-01).
